BOA

Investigating the wonders of nature isn’t always easy. Often biology is practised by reading books, articles and journals. But if you don’t feel like doing that anymore, go to the “Biology Outdoor Association”, also known in Dutch as “Biologen op Avontuur”. Biologists go on adventures searching for the coolest aspects of life on earth, because that’s why you became a biologist in the first place, isn’t it? This ranges from birding on the wadden Island and searching for leeches in the ditch to anatomy nights where you can explore the insights of various animals. The BOA has it all. The committee members can easily be recognized by their stylish Indiana Jones hats with which they have escaped many sun strokes. Prepare for excitement and adventure when come along with the BOA. There is even some booze present afterwards sometimes. Wandering over the vast wilderness of Schiermonnikoog, cycling with your fellow biologists through the Veluwe at nighttime, listening carefully for the lure of deers. In the past three years we have done a variety of activities. A short impression: birding-weekend on Terschelling, looking for deers and listening to their lure on the Veluwe, anatomy-nights with lambs, half horseheads and snakes, mushroom excursions around campus, fishing next to a nuclear power plant and a nature documentary night!

We are always interested in new ideas and fresh, enthusiastic biologists. So be sure to sent an email to boa.biologica@wur.nl if you are interested in organizing these kind of amazing activities!

Best regards,

the BOA
